WHY WE CHANT
When engaging in any transformational practice, such as yoga, it is traditional to set an intention for the effort we make.
The Ashtanga Yoga Mantra can be interpreted as, with gratitude we surrender (for our own benefit as opposed to an act of worship) to the practical and time tested teachings of yoga in order to improve the quality of our life and to overcome our worldly suffering and delusion.
The Mangala Mantra is an ancient chant that we chant at the end of our yoga practice to offer the merits of our practice for the benefit of all beings and the earth.
In other words, the benefits from our yoga practice, which purify and uplift our own life, should be offered for the benefit of all beings and the earth. |

Ashtanga Yoga Invocation
OM
I bow to the lotus feet of all gurus.
The awakening happiness of one's own Self revealed.
Beyond better acting like the jungle physician, pacifying delusion, the poison of Samsara.
In the form of a man to the shoulders, holding a conch, a discus, and a sword, with thousands of white heads, to Patanjali I salute.
