YOGA TEACHING TRAINING/PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

2010/2011 graduate comments:

"It’s about more than the poses. This is what Jonathan said when we first discussed the idea of the teacher training/personal development course. As I sit and reflect on the past nine months, I realize how true this statement is. I had a typical narrow view of what yoga was all about, however, this course has opened the door to the vastness of yoga. Jonathan is a gifted teacher and by sharing his great knowledge of yoga, we were given the tools which will help us in our journey through this life. It is a way to live life from a point of balance, regardless of the situation.
I am quite new to a regular yoga practice, but I felt fully supported and encouraged by Jonathan and my co-trainees. It was a wonderful experience and one that none of us wanted to end. I feel like a changed person and I know the study of yoga will be a life long endeavour for me. If you want to give yourself a gift that will not only greatly benefit you, but each and every person you meet, consider this training. It is a gift that will last your entire life." - Sandy Briscoe

"This teacher training helped me to foster an integration of yoga into my life, which has been a humbling and eye-opening process. Over the past few months, I have discovered that the easiest part of practice is the hour or so spent on the mat every morning; it's the rest of the day that is most difficult! I am very grateful for the opportunity to cultivate a greater connection to myself and others through this practice, and especially grateful that Jonathan has been there to guide me through." - Adrienne Shum

"I’m shy. To my mind, there is no explaining the propulsion to wanna stand up in front of a group and talk, never mind teach. And chant, like, sing in front of people, are you kidding me? But that’s one of the jewels of yoga; it’s a practice that teaches us that we are enough. We just need to have faith. So, I did, and here I am nine short months later. Truly it was a re-birth of sorts, or a re-awakening or one heck of an expedition at the very least. A trek shepherded by Jonathan’s ever present compassion and light, made all the more cozy by the warmth and love of Adrienne, Colleen and Sandy. Along the way, with the encouragement and acceptance of these four friends, I kicked over stones, stumbled my way through and by the end uncovered the beginning of expansive, marvellous possibilities."- Andrea Madison

"The process of this training over the past nine months has been both challenging and gratifying. Working with and learning about the primary series poses, meditation and assigned readings of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Upanishads, and Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras brought a deeper understanding of those areas but also brought a recognition of having learned what amounts to a drop in the ocean of yoga. In particular, the meditation process for me was difficult physically, mentally and emotionally but the increased practice allowed me to begin to process and work through what I was experiencing, deepening my practice. And yet, the more I learned I realized the less I knew.
When I began the yoga training program, I had been teaching other styles of yoga for several years. I am no longer teaching formal classes. This is not to say that I will not teach again, but rather, the experience of the training I received was so much deeper than I had ever anticipated, my desire to practice has far eclipsed my desire to teach.
This training program is above all else a program for personal development and growth. I am grateful for the experience to have studied with Jonathan and to have such a fabulous group of women to take the training with. The Shala attracts beautiful people with a likeminded attitude. I would highly recommend this comprehensive program to anyone for a deeper insight into yourself, your practice and yoga in general." - Colleen Braun
