LED CLASS PROGRAM

The Led Class Program, comprised of noon hour, evening and weekend classes, is designed to cultivate engaged mindfulness and awareness. In each class, regardless of level, students will be assisted in developing tristhana. The evening program allows for practice 1 to 5 times per week - therefore, we encourage you to choose a frequency of practice that you can sustain on an ongoing basis. Making space in your life for regular and consistent practice will benefit you and those around you immeasurably.

Tristhana refers to the union of three places of attention or action: posture, breathing and visual or sense focus. These places of attention relate to three levels of purification: body, nervous system and mind. Tristhana is integral to the practice of yoga; each is performed in conjunction with the other. This practice supports a more aware, sensitive and compassionate life in and out of the yoga studio.

Our Led Class Program designates each class simply, Level 1 to 3, progressing from beginner to more advanced. Remember that an advanced student is one who practices regularly, who takes the teaching to heart and practices with sincerity, not necessarily the student who can wrap limbs easily.

Level 1
Sun Salutations and the standing poses of the Primary Series, the foundation of physical posture practice, are taught. Basic alignment, introduction to connection of movement and breath and cultivating focus (i.e. tristhana) will be emphasized.

Level 1/2 and 2 and 2/3
These classes will continue to instruct the practice of yoga through Sun Salutations and the standing poses, and will move into the seated poses of the Primary Series. This is where the student begins to understand that there is indeed a cardiovascular component to this practice as poses connect through a series of movements, vinyasas. Level 2 and 2/3 will include some inversions, the finishing poses of the series.

Level 3
The full Primary Series is taught. Students are encouraged to first attend Level 1 and 2 classes to gain familiarity with the poses and the flow of the ashtanga practice. This class moves quickly; the aim is to simply move and breath without stopping to adjust or think. This is where the meditative component of yoga practice begins to deepen.

Sunday Morning Primary Series
This class is included in the Mysore program but is open to all. Level 3.
